We help you plan the island's most rewarding roads, matched to whichever convertible or SUV you book, from mountain passes to coastal lanes.

Palma to Sóller and back, about 3 hours driving
Formentor run
Pollença to the lighthouse, roughly 45 minutes each way
South-east coves
Palma to Cala Mondragó, about 1 hour each way

Plan your drive, choose your car

Mallorca's back roads reward the right car. The hairpins above Valldemossa, the long straight along Pollença bay and the quiet lanes behind Santanyí all ask for something more responsive than a standard rental, which is why most enquiries we get are for one specific drive, not just a week of running errands.

We deliver the car to your villa or hotel the evening before, so you can leave straight after breakfast rather than losing the first hour of daylight collecting keys in Palma. Routes through the Serra de Tramuntana are best started early, before the tour coaches reach Sóller and Valldemossa.

Palma to the Formentor lighthouse

  1. 01

    Palma to Valldemossa

The MA-1110 gains height fast out of Palma, with tight hairpins that suit a sports car's low-speed torque and a convertible's tighter turning circle.

  2. 02

    Valldemossa to Sóller

The old road between the two towns crosses the Coll de Sóller through pine terraces and stone-walled villages, best taken at a gentle pace.

  3. 03

    Sóller to Pollença

The Ma-10 along the northern flank of the Tramuntana opens into long sightlines over the coast, ideal for driving with the roof down.

  4. 04

    Pollença to the Formentor lighthouse

The last stretch narrows to a single lane as it climbs toward the lighthouse, rewarding a sports car's quick steering with views back over the whole bay.

Routes and car questions

Which car suits a Serra de Tramuntana drive, convertible or SUV?

Both cope with the climbs, but an SUV gives more ground clearance and a calmer ride through the hairpins above Valldemossa and Deià. A convertible rewards the slower, scenic stretches between Sóller and Pollença with the roof down, so the choice usually comes down to how much of the route is tight mountain road versus open coast.

Do I need a special licence category to drive a convertible or SUV here?

No special category, just our standard requirement: you need to be at least 23 and have held a full licence for 3 years or more, and this applies to every car in the fleet. We check this against your licence before confirming the booking.

What's a good route for the south-east coves if I only have half a day?

From Palma, the south-east coves route runs via Llucmajor and Santanyí to Cala Mondragó and Cala Figuera, about an hour's drive each way on quieter roads than the Tramuntana side. It suits an afternoon better than a full day, since there's far less climbing and more stopping points along the coast.

How does the deposit and insurance excess affect the final cost of a day's drive?

The deposit is held on your card and released after the car comes back undamaged, so it doesn't add to the bill unless there's damage to assess. The excess is what you'd cover before insurance picks up the rest, and you can lower it with the excess-reduction option, with both figures set out per vehicle in your written offer before you book.

Is 48 hours enough notice to book a car for a specific route?

Yes, 48 hours is our recommended minimum to confirm the exact model and arrange delivery to your villa or hotel before you set off. Booking earlier in high season, June to September, gives you a better chance of getting the specific convertible or SUV you want for the route.
